Hello,
Today I am going to share with you my homemade sandwich bread recipe.
There is nothing better than having fresh homemade bread. Bread is great for sandwiches, to have different spreads, and as an addition to the soup.
I am not an expert when it comes to baking. It is still a challenge for me when it comes to working with the dough. There are so many factors you need to consider when baking. Little shifts in weight of your ingredients, can change your dough texture a lot.
The more you practice making different dough recipes, the sooner you will see progress.
This homemade sandwich bread recipe is a great place to start.
The recipe is easy and simple to make. And in the end, you will have soft homemade sandwich bread with a beautiful crunchy light crust on top.
Did I mention working with the dough is fun?
So carry on reading…
Step by Step Guide on How to Make Homemade Sandwich Dough
Step 1: In a mixing bowl combine yeast with some warm water and sugar. Let the mixture sit for about 15 minutes.
Almost forgot the sugar…
This will allow us to activate the yeast. If it forms a foamy coating on the surface, that is our indicator for a live yeast.
Step 2: Now it is time to add the rest of the ingredients such as flour and salt. You can start off using a spatula and then later bring the dough together with your hands.
We are aiming for a firm, but slightly sticky dough.
Step 3: Knead the dough until you have something like this.
Step 4: For the dough not to go dry while rising, coat it lightly in oil and the bowl as well….so it won’t stick while rising.
Step 5: Cover the bowl with a towel and place it somewhere warm to rise for about 1 hour 30 minutes.
After 1 hour 30 minutes, your dough should look something like this…
Step 6: Divide the dough into 6 equal pieces.
I like to cut the dough in half and then cut each half into 3 slices. They do not need to be perfect, but if you prefer precision you can weigh each piece to be exact.
Step 7: Shape each piece into a shape that you like the most. It can be rectangular like a chabata, or something like a hot dog bread.
Whatever shape you like…there are no restrictions.
Step 8: Allow your shaped dough rest for another 30 minutes.
Step 9: To make your sandwich bread look interesting, with a very sharp knife you can make light cuts on top. While the bread bakes those cuts will open up and the edges will become crispy.
Step 10: Preheat the oven to 200 degrees Celsius.
Step 11: Place an oven-friendly container with water inside the oven. This will create moisture in the oven and will prevent your bread from hardening too quickly.
Step 12: Spray your shaped dough with some water before placing in the oven to bake.
Step 13: Cook the sandwich bread for 20-25 minutes. The time may vary depending on your type of oven.
Step 14: After 10 minutes in the oven spray sandwich bread with some water.
Step 15: Take out of the oven once you see a beautiful golden top.
Delicious homemade sandwich bread!
